SUMMARY:MMM Lecture Series: Where the Food Grows on the Water
DESCRIPTION:Mnomen\, or wild rice\, is a culturally and historically significant crop for the Native peoples of the Great Lakes. Join us as Cecil Wilson\, historian for the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi\, explores the historical and contemporary connections between mnomen and the Pokagon people. A hands-on display will accompany the talk and recreate a traditional wild rice camp to demonstrate the methods used to harvest this vital food. \nTickets are free for Museum members and $10 for non-members. Doors open at 6 PM. DESCRIPTION:Who says pirate camp is just for kids? \nAdult Pirate Camp takes all the activities\, sailor skills\, creativity\, and laughs of our kids’ camp and reimagines them just for adults—after dark\, a little spooky\, and full of fun. \nJoin us for an adults-only evening of maritime mischief and pirate revelry at the Michigan Maritime Museum. Spend time with our captains and crew learning real sailor skills\, try your hand at adult pirate crafts\, play games\, enjoy s’mores\, and make your way around the Museum for a grown-up round of trick-or-treating. \nThe evening will also feature a pirate photo booth to capture your most seaworthy look\, themed activities\, and a pirate costume contest with great prizes\, so come dressed to impress. \nEach guest will receive two spooky themed drinks with admission\, with their choice of cocktail or mocktail options. A cash bar will also be available throughout the evening for additional drinks. \nWhether you arrive as a seasoned buccaneer\, a mysterious sea witch\, a ghostly captain\, or just someone ready for a great night out\, Adult Pirate Camp is your chance to embrace your inner pirate and take over the Museum for one unforgettable evening. \nTickets are $40 for members\, $49 for non-members.  \nAdults only\, 21 & up.  Costumes strongly encouraged. \nRESERVE YOUR TICKETS HERE

DESCRIPTION:Calling all little ghosts and ghouls to the Michigan Maritime Museum Annual Kids’ Halloween Spooktacular!\nJoin us on October 22nd from 5 PM – 7 PM for a family-friendly Halloween celebration.\nWhen children arrive\, they’ll be given a treasure map guiding them to eight learning locations across the Museum’s campus. At each stop\, they’ll have the chance to take part in fun activities\, earn candy\, and collect prizes. Along the way there will be costumes\, games\, trick-or-treating\, and lots of surprises.\nThe best part? This event is completely FREE—and families can also enjoy a little exploration inside the Museum! Put on your costumes and come down for a Spooktacular evening of discovery and fun. The animals of the Michigan Maritime campus have donned their costumes for a fun and spooky\, but not scary adventure. Rain or shine\, in the case of poor weather the celebration continues inside our Mike and Linda Winkel & Mike and Sue Smith Maritime Heritage Center.
