FAQs on Field Trips
When are field trips available?
Availability varies by program. Dockside tours typically begin in May, while sails on Friends Good Will begin in late May. Museum tours and Learning Center programs are offered year-round.
How do I book a field trip?
Please call the museum at (269) 637-8078.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes! Please see the MAKE Education Happen Grant Program, made possible by a generous donor.
What should we bring and wear for sailing programs?
We recommend leaving water bottles, backpacks, and loose items on land. Temperatures on the lake can be cooler, so dressing in layers is advised. Sunscreen should be applied before arrival. Tennis shoes or sneakers with rubber soles are recommended. Crocs, flip-flops, and shoes with heels can be slippery on wet decks and are discouraged.
What happens if the weather is bad?
All sails are weather dependent, including wind and wave conditions. If the Michigan Maritime Museum cancels due to weather, you will have the option to reschedule or receive a refund. In some cases, cancellations due solely to wind and waves may be converted to a dockside tour program.
Education Resources
We’ve created some extra resources for students, parents and teachers to engage their mini maritimers at home. These include coloring pages, activity sheets, and links to activities and video content.
