Get your tickets today (in-person or online) for this one-of-a-kind custom built canoe! This cedar strip boat, Western Star, was designed and hand crafted by Mackinaw Watercraft‘s award-winning Michigan boat builder Allen Deming and donated to the Museum by Bonny Marx & John Laing. This is art that is truly meant to be used!
The Western Star is a Pere Marquette model solo canoe. Built in the monocoque style of stripped boat building, it offers elegant lines and a beautiful combination of natural wood species that immediately catch the eye. The lightweight yet sturdy combination of fiberglass and epoxy make it easy to transport
and far more rugged than you might believe. Paddled like a kayak, it is easy to fish from and from which to climb in and out. Throw this boat on the roof of your car or in the back of your truck and you are on your way!
The construction of the Western Star features Northern White Cedar and California Redwood in the hull and deck. Black Walnut has been used for seat and thwart/backrest as well as in the chevrons of the color strips. The gunnels are built from sturdy Michigan sourced Red Oak.
Length: 12’ Beam: 24” Weight: 30 pounds
The drawing will be held at the Museum’s 43rd Annual Antique & Classic Boat Show in June. You do not need to be present to win.
The raffle winner will be responsible for the pick up and transport of the boat from the Museum.
